Japanese Breakfast: Natto

Do you know what a fermented food is? Fermented foods go through a chemical process. Fermentation is used to make cheese, beer, wine, and other foods. In Japan, fermented soybeans are used to make a popular breakfast food called natto.

Natto is known for its strong smell and taste. The beans are sticky and smell like cheese. Many people eat natto with ginger and mustard. Other people like to eat it on its own. In fact, the most common way of eating natto is with rice and vegetables.
