Christmas Celebrations!

Christmas is a Christian holiday. It honors the birth of Jesus, an important figure in Christianity. People celebrate it on December 25th. They celebrate it in different ways! Here are some of the ways people celebrate Christmas.

In the U.S. and Canada, some people put evergreen trees in their homes. They hang lights and ornaments on the trees. Some kids hang stockings on a fireplace, so they can get small treats. People also give gifts to each other on Christmas.

In the Philippines, people hang up star shaped lanterns. These are called parols. They are very popular Christmas decorations.

In some countries in Europe, children put their shoes near the fireplace the night before Christmas. They hope the shoes will be filled with treats by the morning!

In Iceland, people give each other books the day before Christmas. They spend the rest of the day reading the books and drinking hot chocolate!
