A long time ago, many Native American tribes lived in the Great Plains. The Blackfoot, Crow, and Arapaho tribes all lived in these plains.
The Great Plains are flat and grassy. Many animals liked to eat these grasses. Tribes hunted those animals for food.
Bison ate grass in the Great Plains. Bison are large, hairy animals with horns. The bison moved from place to place in the plains. Tribes followed the bison. Then, the tribe members hunted them.
The tribe members used every part of the bison. They made spoons out of the horns. They made walls for their homes from the bison’s skin. They also made jewelry from the bison’s bones.
These tribes needed bison to live in the Great Plains.
